What is SpotOn Connect?

SpotOn Connect is an email capture tool for restaurants to provide free Wi-Fi for their customers, while letting customers provide their email address and sign up for the restaurant’s mailing list. This gives merchants a way to grow their customer lists and drive repeat business, while enhancing the customer experience by providing Wi-Fi.

What equipment do I need in order to use SpotOn Connect? 

SpotOn Connect is available to any restaurant with a SpotOn-provided Cisco Meraki Pronto router. We are only able to support Cisco Meraki Pronto devices at this time. 


How do I set up my router to use SpotOn Connect?

  1. Once your router is set up to provide an internet connection, sign into your router’s admin page. 

  2. Navigate to Teleworker Gateway and select Splash Page

  3. Under Custom Splash URL, select Or provide a URL where users will be redirected and enter: “httpsFrom the Dropdown on the top left, select the network you will be adding the captive portal to.

  4. Now, click the Configuration tab, and the subsequent tab called “network” to adjust their “network”.

  5. There, you could be brought into the routers network configurations. Here we should see the Network’s SSID’s that are available.

  6. Given we are adding a captive portal on the Guest network, next to the SpotOn guest SSID, you will see an edit button on the far right. Click “edit”

  7. You will be brought into the Edit SSID page. Here, we scroll to the bottom where there is a drop down for captive portal.

  8. Click the dropdown arrow next to “Captive Portal Configuration”

  9. Enter the data as follows:

    1. Captive Portal = External (Local Auth)

    2. Default Idle Timeout = 1800

    3. Splash URL = https://captive-portal.spoton.com/splash

    4. Where should Users Go = select either “The URL they are trying to fetch”, or, “A different URL”

      1. URL trying to fetch means they will be redirected to the page the guest was trying to access when logging in, or, if you would like the guest to be redirected to a URL of their choice (possibly the merchant’s webpage) select the “A different URL” option

    5. Walled Garden = Enable

    6. Walled Garden Range = Please enter the following URLs:

      1. http://Spoton.com

      2. http://captive-portal.spoton.com

    /splash”
      1. http://fullstory.com

      2. http://wavespot.net

      3. Wavespot.app

    1. Click the green “update SSID” at the bottom

    2. Captive portal should now be active.

And that’s it! Once customers attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network they will be routed through the SpotOn Connect portal in order to connect to the internet.


How do I update my logo on my Wi-Fi splash page?

Go to http://dashboard.spoton.com , then select settings. Update your profile photo to the desired logo, and in 30min-1 hour you will see that logo on your Wi-Fi splash page.


How do customers connect to the Wi-Fi?

  1. On their device, customers connect to your Wi-Fi network, and will be greeted by a splash page.

  2. If they select Go Online, they’ll be taken to a page where they have the option of entering their email address, or continuing as a guest.

    • If they continue as a guest, they will be taken to a success page and connected to the internet

    • If they enter their email, SpotOn will validate their email address and either create a new account for them or find their existing account. They will then be taken to a success page and connected to the internet


Are customers required to give their email addresses to use the Wi-Fi?

No, customers have the option to connect as a guest without providing an email address.


How do I find the email addresses of customers who used the Wi-Fi?

The email addresses of customers who sign up using the Wi-Fi can be found in the Customers Tab of the Merchant Dashboard, and they can be identified by having SpotOn Connect listed in the Join Source column. 


What can I do with the email addresses collected through SpotOn Connect?

You can use these email addresses for everything you can do with customer email addresses from any other source, including creating marketing campaigns or tracking visits. See here for more information on ways to use our Marketing tools.


How much does SpotOn Connect cost?

SpotOn Connect is free, but does require a SpotOn-provided Cisco Meraki Pronto router, along with any applicable connection fees. Additionally, some restaurants may require additional access points depending on the size of the venue; . The router is $300, price per access point (including installation) is $450. is $300, and a $25/month connectivity fee.
