SpotOn Terminal (2024) Lite introduces a new activation process flow leveraging one-time activation codes that will aid a streamlined activation flow to get merchants up and running quickly.

Power ON/OFF:

  • Power ON: Press and hold the power button down for 2 seconds until the LCD backlight turns on. The terminal has successfully been powered on.

Requesting a new Activation code

Info

If the activation code provided has expired, you will run into this error message.

  • To request a new code, tap on “Resend Code”. A new activation code will be provided via email and text message.

  • A confirmation of the resend code action will show on the screen.

Successful Activation Code

  • Once you enter the activation code, the following screens will prompt for confirmation of the merchant location business name, and address. The following screens will guide you through setting up Sales Tax, any application fees, discounts you would like to apply, and tip management if the merchant location accepts tips.

Confirming Location

Following activation, users encounter a post-activation flow where they are prompted to verify the accuracy of the business details they have provided.

Action

  • The location’s DBA name as well as address is displayed on screen.
    Tap “Yes” to proceed if the information is accurate. 
    Tap “No” if it does not match.

You may Tap No when:

  • The location information displayed is inaccurate or it does not match the actual location information. 

  • Information is provided to merchants to contact support with the contact information provided for further assistance.

Timezone Selection

In the event that the device's time settings are incorrect, merchants are prompted with clear instructions guiding them through the process of rectifying the issue. These step-by-step instructions provide detailed guidance on how to adjust the device's time settings accurately.

  • Once the correct time is set on the device, users can tap on the “Continue” button to proceed with the setup process. 

  • However, it's important to note that the “Continue” button will remain deactivated until the correct time is selected.

Adding Taxes

The best time to set up the prerequisite local Sales Tax is before any transactions are processed.

  • Choose the Exemption option for the taxes and tap “ADD Tax” when completed.

Adding Fees

  • From here, you can add the Fee Name field and the Fee Amount field which is a numeric value represented by percentage.  

  • Finally, choose how the Fee is going to be calculated during a sale in the Apply Fee section.

Adding Discounts

  • Tap the “+ Add” button to add a new discount

  • From here, you can add the Discount Name field and the Discount Amount field which is a numeric value represented by percentage.

  

  • Choose how the Discount is going to be calculated during a sale in Apply Discount.

  • Then choose whether the discount is automatically applied during a Sale. 

  • If the merchant location has more than one discount, in the main Discount screen select “Add Discount” and repeat the steps to configure additional preset discounts.

Gratuity (Tip) Settings

SpotOn Terminal Lite can handle a multitude of ways of calculating and configuring gratuity. Options include:

  • Tip Prompt: where a configurable guide is presented on the screen either before or after the sale.

  • Tip Line, where the tip can be written on the receipt and adjusted after the receipt is returned.

  • If the merchant location accepts tips, toggle the “Enable Tips” selection to turn on tips settings.

  • Merchants can activate the Require Server Number which prompts the input of server information before adding a tip to a sale order. This allows merchants to accurately track and attribute sales to individual servers.

  • There are preset Tip Amounts provided for Tip on screen selections. 

  • To configure the text and amount for each tip preset, tap on the description text, “Good” to configure. 

  • Once you are in the configuration, you can change the Preset Name and the Tip Amount and select Save when complete.

  • If the merchant location prefers to have the customers write in their tips, they can change the Default Tipping Methods to Tip on receipt.

  • When merchants enable Compact Tip Line option, it excludes pre-configured tip options from merchant receipts. As a result, customers are not presented with predetermined tipping options, giving them more freedom to input a tip amount of their choosing directly on the receipt. 

  • Enabling Multiple Tip Adjust allows merchants to do multiple Tip Adjusts against a sales order.

  • Once Tipping is configured tap Finish Setup.

Create Manager PIN

At this stage, merchants can select a device PIN that will be required to access certain critical settings. Currently, entering the PIN is necessary to modify device offline settings.

  • Merchants are prompted to create a 4-digit PIN and must re-enter it to confirm the PIN.

Device Offline Mode

Merchants have the option to enable device offline mode, allowing them to process transactions even when the device is not connected to the internet.

Note

With this setting enabled, merchants are fully liable for failed captures, chargeback, and disputes of offline payments. Failed transactions can result in a loss of funds.

Action (Set Offline Mode)

Display

  • Merchants can choose to keep the offline mode disabled and tap Save Changes to complete the activation process. However, if they enable offline mode, additional settings will appear to set the offline mode limits.

  • When offline mode is enabled, merchants can set three limits

    • the maximum individual transaction amount

    • the maximum total transaction amount

    • the maximum number of days the device can remain offline. 

  • They can also view how much of each limit remains.

  • Merchants can then tap on Save Changes to finish setting up the last step of the activation flow.

Device Activation Complete

At this stage, merchants have completed the activation of their devices, having incorporated taxes, fees, tips, and discounts. They then receive a confirmation message indicating success and are ready to start taking payments.
