1. From the main BOH menu screen, select the Taxes icon

2. Click the New Item icon ( + ) to create a new Tax

3. In the General Information section use the Name text field to name the new Tax, i.e., Sales Tax, Sugar Tax, Liquor Tax etc..

4. In the Location Specific Settings input the appropriate Tax Percentage for each Order Type

Tip

If the new tax will vary from location to location, click Edit Specific Locations to adjust the Tax Rates by location

Apply Tax to Menu Items

Taxes are fully customizable. Often locations will require multiple different taxes to be applied across their menu items, i.e., state taxes, sales taxes, sugar taxes, liquor taxes, etc..

In the Taxes section of the Menu Item editor tap the ( + ) New Tax button

  • Optional: If desired, check the Included in Price box. This means the Customer will pay the Menu Price of the item and the Business Owner will pay the applicable tax(es)

Tax/Fee Rounding

For payment processing and tax rounding we utilize bankers rounding, also known as rounding to half even.

In some cases an extra penny will seem to appear when calculating tax across multiple items on an order. This is due to the tax rate, for example, 8.25%, and the amount of items for which it is calculated across, for example, 3 cups of coffee, and the use of bankers rounding. (See below)

4.99 x .0825 = .411675  

.411675 x 3 = 1.235025

$14.97 + $1.24 = $16.21

Using New Tax Calculation for Fixing Rounding Errors

Default Tax settings for the system calculate tax on the individual Item Level. This can cause rounding errors in certain scenarios. In order to prevent these errors please select Use New Tax Calculation for Fixing Rounding Errors in the BOH.
