Printer Setup

Initial Setup & Network Connection

After unboxing a new printer, follow the included instructions to complete the initial device setup. This includes inserting printing paper and connecting the power supply.

Receipt printers must either be connected to the POS via USB or connected to the local network via ethernet.

Chit printers must be connected to the local network via ethernet.

Printers must be connected to the same network as the POS devices.

Once the printer is connected to the POS via USB or the local network (via ethernet), proceed to POS Printer Assignment.

POS Printer Assignment

Assigning a printer type in the POS is the last step to activate a printer. Tap the hamburger icon to expand the POS nav menu, then tap the Printers option.

Connected printers (via USB and/or local network) should automatically be visible on the Printers page. If your printer isn’t visible, tap Refresh to check for additional connected printers.

Once your printer is displayed on the Printers page, tap either the “Assign Receipt Printer” button or “Assign Kitchen Printer” button to assign the appropriate printer type.

All network connected printers must be set to a static IP address. For more information, view the video linked here.

  1. Tap the home and power buttons on the back of the terminal to access the settings area > Settings > Android Settings > Apps & Notifications > See all apps (if chrome isn’t one of the few listed already at the top of the page) > click on Chrome > open

  2. Tap the IP address that the printer printed out into the google search bar > click advanced at the bottom of the “error search page” > click on “proceed to ‘ip address number’” > Username: Epson, Password: serial number on side of printer

  3. Once logged in click on TCP/IP on the left toolbar > change “Acquire IP Address” to Manual > change the IP address to the SpotOn required IP address such as 192.168.250.150 > click Send > click Reset

If a merchant uses a KDS and a kitchen printer, the kitchen printer should ONLY be connected to the KDS. Connecting that printer to any POS devices and the KDS will result in duplicate printing. The only case where a kitchen printer should be connected to both the KDS and POS is when KDS is running in the background on a POS device for online order printing.
