Shippo® FAQs

What is Shippo®?

Shippo® is a shipping platform that simplifies Ecommerce processes. By integrating Shippo® with your SpotOn Ecommerce marketplace, you can easily show real-time shipping rates to your customers during checkout, purchase discounted shipping labels, print packing slips, and track orders all from within SpotOn.

What are the prerequisites for using this integration?

To use Shippo® through SpotOn, you will need an existing Shippo® account with a payment method on file to purchase labels. You can sign in or create an account by going to Shipping Settings (in the Catalog) and selecting Shippo®.

How do I turn on Shippo®?

It's easy! Just navigate to Settings in the Catalog, select Shipping, then select Shippo® Calculated Rates. You will be prompted to sign in or sign up if you don't have an account.

What carriers are available through the Shippo® Integration?

USPS®, UPS®, and FedEx®.

Are there any rules or limitations I should be aware of if I choose to use USPS carrier service through Shippo®?

Please ensure that your shipments are in full compliance with all federal USPS rules and regulations, including newly implemented rules effective December 2022:

Increased Visibility of Hazmat Packages

  • USPS now requires a clear physical separation must be made between Hazmat and Non-Hazmat packages. (i.e., Packages must be sorted into separate mail receptacles.) This rule has been implemented to increase the visibility of Hazmat packages to Post Office partners.

Rule exceptions: Hazmat and non-Hazmat mail does not require separation when brought directly to one of the following location types: Destination Delivery Unit (DDU), Destination Sectional Center Facility (DSCF), or Destination Network Distribution Center (DNDC).

Changes to Packages Containing Lithium Batteries

  • USPS now limits the shipment of used/damaged/defective electronic devices which contain lithium batteries to surface transportation only. This prohibits the ability to send or receive packages containing these items internationally.

  • USPS now requires packages to be clearly labeled “Restricted Electronic Device” and “Surface Transportation Only,” in addition to any other applicable required markings.

Rule exceptions: This rule does not include shipments containing new electronic devices in unopened/original manufacturer packaging, or devices that have been officially manufacturer-certified as new or refurbished.

If you have questions about the new USPS rules and regulations, please contact support@spoton.com or call (877) 814-4102, Selection 2 for assistance.

Yes, you can easily switch back and forth at any time without losing any of your shipping profile settings.

Can I set free shipping options if my customers spend a certain amount?

Yes. When setting up your Shippo® shipping profile and selecting carrier services, you will see an option to offer free shipping. Simply set the amount and choose the service that you want to offer.

No. We currently only support domestic shipping within the continental US.

Is there a fee from SpotOn to use Shippo®?

How do my customers pay for shipping?

Your customers will see applicable shipping services and speed options during checkout. Rates are calculated in real-time based on the customer's shipping address, weight, and size of the order. The price for shipping is added to the total order amount.

How do I fulfill an order and purchase labels?

Navigate to your Orders tab in the Dashboard. Select an unfulfilled shipping order. Once on the fulfillment page, click Buy Label. You can review the price of the label and have various options such as changing the shipping carrier or service, changing the box size, or editing the to/from address. Confirm your purchase by selecting Buy Label on the confirmation window. Click Print Label and your label will open in a new tab for you to print or send.

Can I print a return label?

Yes. There are two options for generating/purchasing return labels:

  1. You can choose to include a return label when you buy the initial label. This is done by selecting the Return Label checkbox on the label purchase screen

  2. Return to the Order Details page at any time and purchase a return label. This is found in the Shipping Options menu.

How do I pay for return labels?

Return labels are scan-based, which means you are only charged if the label is actually used. The default return shipping service will be determined by the cheapest rate available. This is typically economy or ground service depending on the carrier. If you need a faster service on your return label, you can generate a return label by going directly to Shippo® here: Shippo®: The Best Multi-carrier Shipping Software for E-commerce

Can I print a packing slip?

Yes. Packing slips can be printed by navigating to the Shipping Options drop-down menu found on the Orders page.

Do Shippo® label purchases include tracking information?

Yes. Once a label is purchased, tracking information will appear in the Shipping Details Table on the Order page.

Will my customers get notified when the order is marked as shipped?

Yes. After you purchase a label and mark it as shipped, your customer will automatically get an email notification with tracking information.

Will my orders and label purchases be available in my Shippo® account automatically?

Yes. All of your order history, label purchases, statuses, and billing information is always available in your Shippo® account.
