Order with Google FAQs

What does Order with Google do?

SpotOn’s integration with Order with Google allows guests to place orders directly from the Google search & maps pages. Orders come in exactly like any other SpotOn online order, and payments are processed the same way.

What are the prerequisites for Order with Google?

To use SpotOn’s integration with Order with Google, a restaurant must have a working SpotOn Order setup, and a Google Business Profile presence. Very large or complex menus may need to have some items or modifiers excluded for size reasons.

How do I turn Order with Google on?

Send an email request to NewRestaurant@spoton.com, including the name of the location.

How are payments taken?

Credit card payments coming from Google are processed exactly as SpotOn Order credit card payments, and will appear in the same batch.

Can I use a different menu for Google than I use for SpotOn Order?

Not at this time. The SpotOn Order menu is exactly the same as the menu that Google will use.

Does Order with Google work with DoorDash Drive?

Not at this time. For its initial release, SpotOn’s integration with Order with Google does not connect with DoorDash Drive. Merchants using DoorDash Drive for delivery with SpotOn Order need to be set up as pickup only for purposes of ordering with Google.

Does this work with Order Pause?

Yes. The Pause ORD command will stop orders coming in from Google, just as it does for SpotOn online orders.

Temporary Disabling

For a temporary shutdown, merchants can use the Order Pause feature of the POS. This allows for a timed pause, or for an indefinite period. This will also pause SpotOn Order. Please see Pause Online Ordering for instructions.

Disabling in BOH

For longer-term shutdown, or if a merchant wants to shut down ordering with Google while leaving SpotOn Order unaffected, the BOH Settings for the Location have an option at the very bottom to disable Order With Google.

Note: the menu will not be removed instantly, but will be complete in less than two hours (updated menus are sent to Google hourly and then they must be processed by Google)

  • To shut down just pickup or just deliveries, setting the Ordering with Google order types to Disabled will disable ordering with Google for either pickup or delivery

  • To shut down both pickup and delivery through Google, uncheck the Enabled option for this feature

Both of the above methods for disabling Ordering with Google will take effect in a few minutes

Does this use the same schedule as SpotOn Order?

Yes. The Location SpotOn Order Schedule set in back-of-house, including overrides for holidays, is used for SpotOn’s integration with Order with Google as well.

Much like Order Pause, please allow a few minutes for these changes to take effect in Google.

Does it work with SpotOn Order Pacing?

Partially. For the initial release, ordering with Google is partially integrated with SpotOn Order pacing. Orders placed through Google are considered as part of the pacing process. When a pacing block is full, no more orders for that time period will be taken through SpotOn Order, but orders can still be taken for that time period through Google.

Full support for SpotOn Order pacing will be available in a future version.

How can I make SpotOn Ordering my preferred ordering method in Google?

  1. Go into your Google Business Profile account settings

  2. Select the Food Ordering menu option

  3. From the Provider section, ensure that the Online Order button is toggled on and SpotOn Food Ordering is selected as both the preferred Pickup and Delivery provider

How do I deactivate other 3rd party providers?

In some cases, Google may automatically enable ordering from other 3rd party providers in addition to SpotOn. To deactivate other providers, submit a request via Google's opt-out form. Please see Google support documentation for more details.

Does Order with Google support SpotOn Loyalty?

SpotOn’s Order with Google integration does allow guests to earn SpotOn Loyalty points. If/when a guest places an order and provides an email linked to a valid SpotOn Loyalty account, they will earn points for that order which will be credited to their account upon successfully completing the order.

There is currently no way to redeem (spend) loyalty points when ordering via Order with Google. However, we plan to add support for loyalty spend as a future improvement.

Can this be used to order with Google Voice?

Google Voice ordering is not supported.

How can I distinguish Order with Google orders vs orders from other channels?

Using a unique order type for Order with Google orders (set in BOH > Locations settings) is currently the best way to distinguish Order with Google orders. A future update is planned to eliminate the need to use a unique order type in order to distinguish Order with Google orders.

What are the known issues with Order with Google?

Subitems on Subitems

Menu items that have subitems on subitems may not appear correctly in the Google ordering interface. However, modifiers on subitems are supported.

Pacing

Order With Google orders are considered for pacing (counted against pacing blocks), and at checkout, guests are prevented from ordering if a pacing block is full.

Order with Google availability is also updated to reflect full pacing blocks, preventing guests from selecting relevant time slots. However, after a pacing block becomes full it can take up to 2 hours for availability to be reflected in Order with Google. During this period, the guest may not see a prompt to change the order time until they add an item to the order.

Split schedules

If the restaurant takes orders for both lunch and dinner, but not the time in between, orders attempted for the unavailable time can be started, but not completed. This will be resolved by the upcoming Pacing update mentioned above.

86’ing items

When an item is 86’d or made unavailable, this will be reflected in the next menu sent to Google. However, while the old menu is still up, Google will warn the guest that the item is unavailable, and prevent it from being ordered. A future update will update the Google menu within a few minutes.

Default Modifiers & Options

Default modifier selections & options are not currently supported for Order with Google menus. In some cases, this can cause certain menu items to cost more than expected given the cost of the default modifier options is added to the original item price. This issue will be resolved in a future update

Pricing and Availability events

Checkout validation: Pricing event availability and price changes DO affect pricing and availability at the time items are added to the order.

Menu display (pre-checkout): Menu display (pre-checkout): Menu item availability is updated to accurately reflect availability changes via pricing events. However, menu item prices are not currently updated to reflect price changes via pricing events.Support for displaying pricing event > price changes on Order with Google menus is planned as a future improvement.

This means that when a pricing event has changed the price of an item, the price shown on the item before ordering will be incorrect, but when the item is added to the order, the correct price is shown and charged.
