Online Orders Notification FAQs

What handhelds will work with SpotOn Sidekick?

The SpotOn Sidekick will use the PAX A920 or the A920 Pro (not the A77).

Will there be sound notification along with the visual notification for SpotOn Order orders?

When an online notification displays on a SpotOn Sidekick, a sound will also come from the built-in speaker. The sound/tone can be selected in the android sound settings. For the volume, the restaurant will need to adjust it to their preference level either through the physical buttons on the side of the handheld or in the android sound settings.

Will the sounds be one per notification or constant until acknowledgment?

There will be one sound per notification. However, the notification will stay on the screen until someone selects one of the options on the notification which are to View or Mark as Read.

What are the other ways to know an online order came through, will it automatically print and what about email notifications?

When an online order is placed the restaurant will still receive an email notification if that has been configured for Confirmation Email Bcc in Locations under the online ordering section. Additionally, when an online order is placed the Bluetooth printer or SpotOn Sidekick printer (depending on which was selected in the back of house) will print the kitchen requisition.

How would 3rd party online orders interact with SpotOn Sidekick and notifications?

3rd party online orders are considered online orders and will come in as normal for the handheld.

When do notifications for future orders come in?

Notifications for future orders come in on the day they are created. On the day of delivery/pick up at the release/lead time the online order will print at the kitchen printer.

Printing FAQs

Will the Kitchen Ticket print the order type/order source/customer information?

For a kitchen, the ticket order type will always print. If they want the customer information to print the restaurant will need to go to the back of house and in Order Types enable Print Customer Info On Reqs.

What happens if the device goes out of range and comes back in range, will it still be paired to the Bluetooth printer?

If a SpotOn Sidekick device goes out of range from the Bluetooth printer and comes back in range, it will automatically search and re-establish the connection. This will take a few seconds to complete so if it initially prints to the failover then wait a few more seconds for the connection to re-establish.

What happens if the device goes out of range when an online order is placed, will it print when it is back in range and connect to the printer?

If the SpotOn Sidekick goes out of range of the Bluetooth printer then printer failover will occur leading to the SpotOn Sidekick print to pick up the print job.

Will Bluetooth support more than just thermal such as impact?

This is being tested out currently by the development team and we’ll need to wait for their discovery.

Was there testing done on the distance between the printer and the SpotOn Sidekick when using Bluetooth?

Through testing between multiple walls with insulation and ducting the max distance was 20-25 feet before the connection became unstable.

Online Order FAQs

If someone has SpotOn terminal, can they upgrade to SpotOn Sidekick?

Yes, an addendum, questionnaire and copy of their menu need to be submitted.

Is it possible to scan a QR code to order online?

To have this happen a restaurant will need to take their online ordering URL and enter that into a free QR code generator. Once the QR code has been generated they would print that and put it on the side of their food truck for their guest to scan and be directed to their SpotOn Order site.

Will the SpotOn Sidekick reflect quantities of items sold on the SpotOn Order website? What happens if something is 86’ed is it an automatic or manual adjustment?

Online ordering, the front of house point of sales, and the SpotOn Serve are all in sync regarding quantity on hand counts. For example, if there are ten cheeseburgers, if a cheeseburger is sold through online ordering then the front of house point of sales and the SpotOn Serve quantity will decrease to nine.

If they use SpotOn online ordering do they have to use our processor?

If they use online ordering they will have to use SpotOn’s processor.

What happens to open online orders at auto end of day?

  1. If the order has been released to the kitchen and no payment added to the order then at the end of the day set time an Auto End Of Day payment is applied to the order and close it out.

  2. If the order has not been released to the kitchen and no payment added to the order then the order will stay on in the list order screen until day of release.

What happens to scheduled future orders which have a payment that came in today and is to be picked up/delivered tomorrow when the feature Auto End of Day is enabled?

The order will stay on the list order screen until the day of release and then close.

Payment FAQs

Are surcharges still allowed on SpotOn Order?

There are ten states (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Main, New York, Oklahoma, and Texas) that have surcharging restrictions. If a restaurant is not listed here then to add a surcharge to online ordering the restaurant would need to go to the back of house to configure a surcharge linking it to the online ordering order types.
